How to Choose the Right Wooden Wall Map for Your Home
Share
There's a moment when you walk into a room and something on the wall just stops you. A wooden world map tends to do that. But before you order one, it helps to think through a few things. These things are: size, style, and where exactly it's going to live.
Start with the wall, not the map
Measure the wall space you're working with before anything else. A large map on a small wall feels cramped. A small map on a huge wall gets lost. As a rough guide: for a wall that's under 6 feet wide, a medium map (around 40–50 inches) works well. For a feature wall or above a sofa, go larger; 60 inches and up makes a real statement.
Match the finish to your space
We make our maps in a few different finishes: the White Rustic, the Natural, and the Rustic Dark. If your home has lighter walls and Scandinavian-style furniture, the White Rustic blends beautifully while still standing out. If your space leans warmer, think exposed wood, leather, earthy tones, then the Rustic Dark feels right at home.
Think about whether you'll use pins
A lot of people buy these maps to track their travels. If that's you, make sure the map you choose is thick enough to hold pins securely. Ours are crafted from quality wood layers, so pins go in cleanly and stay put without the whole thing flexing.
Place it somewhere you'll actually see it
This sounds obvious, but a lot of people tuck it in a hallway or spare room. These maps are conversation starters. They deserve a spot in your living room, your home office, or above your bed; somewhere guests will see it and somewhere you'll walk past it every day and remember the places you've been.
