Why We Only Work with Sustainably Sourced Wood

When we started Luxnwood, the question of where the wood came from wasn't an afterthought. It was one of the first things we figured out. Here's why it mattered to us, and why we think it should matter to you too.

Wood isn't infinite

The obvious thing to say is that trees take decades to grow. But what that actually means for a product company is that every piece of wood you use has a real cost behind it. This cost is not just in dollars, but in time, in ecosystems, in the land it came from. Working with sustainably sourced suppliers means we only use wood from forests that are managed responsibly, where trees are replanted and harvested at a rate the land can support.

It shows up in the quality

Here's something that surprised us early on: sustainably managed wood is often better quality. When forests aren't over-logged, the trees grow more evenly. That means more consistent grain, fewer defects, and a final product that looks and feels more refined. Our maps have a warmth and texture to them that's hard to fake, and a lot of that comes from the quality of the raw material.

It's the right thing for something meant to last

Our products are made to stay on your wall for years. Possibly decades. A wall map isn't a piece of fast furniture you replace every two years. That longevity is only meaningful if the material it's made from was sourced in a way that doesn't cost the planet more than it gives back.

We're not perfect and we don't pretend to be. But sourcing responsibly is a line we won't cross, and it's one of the few things we'll always be proud to say about how we make things.
